Windows 7 Netbooks:  Why only 7 starter?!  No screen personalization.
I am annoyed that I can't personalize my screen on my new Netbook. It came with Windows 7 BUT only the Starter version! That wasn't clear until I tried to personalize my screen - seemingly a simple thing that we should be able to do - Maddening!!!!!!!!

To be quite blunt, the decision of what version to install lies with the computer manufacturer, not MS.Does MS specify what versions can be installed on a given machine? Yes, but only a little (Home Basic is for 'emerging markets' only; Enterprise is only available via Volume Licensing agreements.)While Starter is intended for low-cost/low-spec machines (such as a netbook), it doesn't mean that the manufacturer isn't permitted to make a higher version (Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate) available.Possibly you can return the machine, if you're still within your seller's return period for computers?Alternately, you can purchase Stardock ObjectDesktop, which will allow you to change the wallpaper (among other things.)HTH,Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message.
